Having grown- up in a country town near Newcastle\, he makes full use of his upbringing and experiences from stories about growing up with a father who was a Doctor in Psychology\, to delivering pizzas while stoned as a seventeen year old boy. Despite his self-proclaimed ‘bogan’ tag\, Matty makes use of the token Aussie Racist and dumb Queenslander labels\, commenting on everyday trends such as Aldi’s ‘specials’ and school playground speed limits. Matty B’s style can only be described as casual and unashamed. His humour is dark\, twisted\, vulgar (in the best kind of way)\, surreal and very abstract.Marty BrightMarty Bright is a hippy who has taken his comedic exports far and wide\, having performed around USA\, Canada and New Zealand at the top clubs including the Comedy Store in LA\, Caroline’s and Broadway Comedy Club in NYC and The Comedy Nest in Montreal.Vanessa Larry MitchellVanessa Larry Mitchell is a successful comic\, emcee and event coordinator\, running five of her own successful rooms in the Northern Rivers\, NSW region. Vanesa enjoys pushing the boundaries and breaking down social norms\, by saying those things women shouldn’t say in public\, but we all think! Her show\, Teardrops on My Dildo\, was the Winner Best Comedy 2022 Newcastle Fringe. Fabulous\, filthy and downright hilarious! Brace yourselves for a wild ride of side-splitting hilarity with the modern-day Queen of Sass\, as she takes you on a laugh-out-loud adventure of her trials and tribulations of parenting\, dating and all things female.Gavin ScottGavin Scott is a Comedian. Gavin is from Sydney. Gavin likes to drink. Gavin knows a little too much about UFOs & Conspiracies and other weird stuff in general. Gavin will now combine comedy and his knowledge by channelling that energy creatively instead of spending many nights in online forums and hiding from you know who… you know. This is a comedian for the curious as Gavin explores paranormal topics as well as belief structures and even himself. Gavin wants to believe… and so should you.

SUMMARY:Hemp Olympix Joint Rolling
DESCRIPTION:Sometime in the mid 90s\, Chibo\, Bob and Michael walked into the Hemp Bar and decided that Mardigrass needed events which would entertain as well as educate\, and the Hemp Olympix were born!! \n5.30 pm : HEMP Olympix Joint Rolling\nHosted by S.Sorensen and Alan Glover \nMust burn from one end to another! The 4 Categories: \nSpeed Roll – Roll a standard 3-paper joint as fast as you can. Joints must include a cardboard filter or will be judged incomplete. \nArtistic Roll – Roll the most beautiful joint within 10 minutes with as many papers as you like. \nRoll in the Dark – Athletes are blindfolded. \nAdverse Conditions Roll – Dependent on weather conditions on the day and the judges’ creativity. \n\nHEMP OLYMPIX – Sport with meaning                                      \nS Sorrensen \nIt’s difficult to determine exactly when the Hemp Olympix began. We know\, of course\, the modern Hemp Olympix began in 1896 in Athens\, attended by 84 athletes\, 600 spectators and 2115 police. \nWe also know that the modern Hemp Olympix was the relighting of the original classical Hemp Olympix played at the base of Mount Olympus more than 2500 years ago\, when the Greeks chucked bongs in the nude\, joints were rolled with papyrus and the results recorded on vellum. \nCannabis has always been a key element in the evolution of humanity from tree-dwelling primate to upstanding human. \nSome evolutionary biologists speculate that the development of an opposable thumb in Homo habilis 2.3 million years ago was due to joint rolling. \nEvolutionary theorist Professor Niger Umber theorises that it was in order to harvest the top heads of Cannabis sativa that caused the early human to stand upright. \nCannabis has been essential part of the human story. And so too has sport. Hence the Hemp Olympix. \nIn 776 BC\, the first official Hemp Olympix was held at Olympia\, in Greece. Featuring the three traditional sporting disciplines – Bong Throw & Yell\, Iron Growerperson Event and Joint Roll – these games were held every four years in honour of Zeus\, the God of Competition\, and Cannabi\, the Goddess of Pot. The athletes\, from all over the known world\, performed naked\, and the winners were given a wreath of Cannabis leaves as a prize to be enjoyed later. \nThe first modern Hemp Olympix was held in Athens\, Greece\, in 1896. \nThe International Hemp Olympix Committee (IHOC)\, formed in 1894\, determined that the modern Hemp Olympix would be an event open to all nationalities and genders to celebrate sport\, Cannabis and the human body. \nThe 1896 Athens Hemp Olympix was a huge success. \nAfter that first Hemp Olympix\, the Games flourished\, being held every four years\, as was the ancient custom. But the IHOC decided in 1904 that the Hemp Olympix would be held in different towns and cities around the world. \nThe Hemp Olympix now attracts teams from around the world\, from Portugal (where Cannabis is legal and the Portugese Hemp Olympix team is funded with money saved from dropping the War on Drugs) to Russia (where war and government are funded by the War on Drugs). \nIn May\, 1993\, the Hemp Olympix was held for the first time in Australia\, in a village called Nimbin\, as a sporting resistance to a tyrannical suppression of the burning bush funded by climate change denial and alcoholic dementia. \nSince then\, 135 countries have hosted the Hemp Olympix. \nNimbin has vowed to host a MardiGrass Hemp Olympix every year until the ridiculous laws of Cannabis prohibition are repealed. \nIn 2003\, two Australian blokes became international Hemp Olympix Officials\, having undergone their Integrity Assessment\, having passed their Knowledge of the Rules and Etiquette for the Games of the Hemp Olympix Examination\, and having received a very positive result in their Drug Test. \nAlan Glover and S Sorrensen now spend their time travelling to Hemp Olympix around the world\, making sure the rules and ethics of the games are adhered to. \nThey officiate at the annual Hemp Olympix at the Nimbin MardiGrass where athletes from around the globe compete for prizes\, glory and the sheer fun of it. \nYou too can celebrate all that is good in humanity\, make fun of all that is ridiculous (like the marijuana laws)\, and have stories to tell the kids\, by being a athlete in the Hemp Olympix. (Just sign up on the day at the Hemp Olympix Sign Up Table.) \nOr you can be a spectator and thrill to a 40-metre Bong Throw & Yell\, have your breath taken away at the speed and grace of a sub-20-second Joint Roll or shake your head at the strength and determination of an Irongrower Person. \nYou can also delve more deeply into the history\, the characters\, and the rules of the Hemp Olympix by purchasing ‘A Spectator’s Guide to the Hemp Olympix’ from the Nimbin Hemp Embassy. \nThrow bong\, live long.

SUMMARY:2025 MardiGrass Cannabis Law Reform Rally & Parade
DESCRIPTION:Gather at 2pm in the Western Carpark! The Nimbin MardiGrass Parade is not a spectator sport. Please feel free to join the parade and show your support for pot law reform.\nWe’re all in this together! Gather and get ready for the MardiGrass Parade!! Meet at the exit of the western car park\, across the road from the Community Centre Market. \nThe march is the main event\, so please walk with us for cannabis law reform! This is our 33rd consecutive annual Rally for Cannabis Law Reform. \nWe vowed to Rally every year on the first Sunday in May until we are no longer criminals for using this herb. Prohibition is an incitement\, not a control! MardiGrass will become a Festival when we can celebrate the herb without fear of prosecution and persecution. When the Police have a float in the street parade behind the Ganja Faeries\, Big Joint & POLITE\, then we really will have a proper festival and celebration. In the meantime\, this annual event is a POLITICAL PROTEST RALLY. \nLed by the Widjibal Elders of the Bunjalung Nation\, with children holding the Koori flag\, the parade this year will start off at 2.30pm from the Western carpark and make its way south along Cullen street where it will turn left and head down past the Town Hall and Greenbank into Plantem Park for the Cannabis Law Reform Rally\, speeches and MardiGrass Float Prize presentations. \nJust follow the Ganja Faeries and the BIG JOINT!!\nThe Ganja Faeries celebrate the spirit of MardiGrass. They dance behind the Bundjalung people who traditionally welcome the protesters to their country each year. Their dance has itself become a tradition simply because the laws remain unacceptable to all self respecting ganja users\, be they Bundjalung\, faeries or otherwise. \nRally speeches from Bundjalung Elders\, Michael Balderstone of the Hemp Embassy\, Miles Hunt (Legalise Cannabis)\, Sue Higginson (Greens)\, Emily Rigby and John Shipton. \nParade Float Awards\nGet out your fabrics\, banners\, paint brushes and sewing machines to get ready for the annual MardiGrass Parade Float Awards. Have a go at creating a float costume\, banner\, paper mache or sculpture about pot prohibition. Floats can be a vehicle for a powerful message about pot celebration and/or protest. We welcome floats that reflect our area\, our people\, our pride\, our fun and festive spirit\, and desire for a peaceful future. Law reform is the focus of MardiGrass and we encourage all to have a say! Prizes will be presented to the winning floats in Sativa Stadium after the Rally. \nProp and Costume Making\nSpontaneous Art Event #imaginorium in Plantem Park. DRop in and get creative with local makers of sculpture\, puppets and fun. #imaginorium is building some fabulous props for this years protest parade on Sunday. EVer wanted to be a more colourful part of protest? Get your creative skates on to paint\, sew\, cut and bedazzle!! Happening throughout Saturday and Sunday!

As a practising lawyer\, Miles often represented individuals charged with cannabis possession. His first-hand experience has solidified his belief that the legalisation of cannabis is long overdue. “The prohibition of cannabis has been one of the greatest failures of modern times”\, Miles asserts. “Legalisation and regulation are essential for a fair and just society. When Miles’ vision and determination make him a powerful advocate for progressive reform and a fairer future for all Australians.

SUMMARY:Hemp Olympix
DESCRIPTION:Sometime in the mid 90s\, Chibo\, Bob and Michael walked into the Hemp Bar and decided that Mardigrass needed events which would entertain as well as educate\, and the Hemp Olympix were born!! \n11:30 am : Hemp Olympix registration\nRegister at Sativa Stadium for the Hemp Olympix! $2 Entry into all HEMP Olympix Events. \n \n12 pm : Hemp Olympix Bong Throw & Yell and then the Growers Ironperson Events\nHosted by S Sorrensen and Alan Glover \nBong Throw & Yell: Entrants throw a bong full of stinking water as far as possible whilst yelling “Free the Weed!” or a similar sentiment. \n Watch the Bong Throw & Yell video\n  \nOver 50s Bong Throw & Yell: The older I get\, the better I was. \nGrowers Ironperson: Involves lugging a sack of fertiliser and buckets of water around the simulated growing area obstacle course with a tick and leech infested lantana tunnel. The men’s event is a 40kg sack while the women contend with an 18kg sack. The top 5 crawl into the final on Sunday. \nThe Dealer’s Nightmare – a new event since 2024: We’ve recently heard from the International HEMP Olympix Committee (IHOC) official S Sorrensen that a major change to the HEMP Olympix program has come down from IHOC HQ in Brussels. It seems several of last year’s Nimbin Iron Grower Person Event contestants had taken an inordinately long time to recover and one\, a medallist\, has still not recovered. IHOC official Alan Glover (yes\, there are two IHOC officials in Australia) said\, “While we are still battling the consequences of the drug war with illegal unregulated chemical drugs on the street\, the committee has decided this event must be suspended until the war is over and respect for drug use returns.” After due consideration by the IHOC\, plans are afoot for a replacement gold-medal event reflecting the change from outdoor to indoor growing\, another drug war impact. The Dealer’s Nightmare will be a team event testing quick and accurate reactions to police raids . . . check back for more details. \nIn exciting news\, the IHOC is also considering including Correct Weight as an official HEMP Olympix event this year after its growing popularity in the Fringe Olympix. Contestants aim to to fill a baggie with exactly 28.3 grams. Correct weight keeps the bag. Followed by the . . . \n \n5 pm : HEMP Olympix Joint Rolling [in the Town Hall!]\nHosted by S.Sorensen and Alan Glover \nMust burn from one end to another!

SUMMARY:Psilocybe: using barcoding genes to better understand their global ecology
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Caine Barlow\, Entheogenesis Australis\, Entheome Foundation\nAbout: Tech savy mushroom foragers are contributing lots of new genetic barcoding data to help better classify a variety of fungi\, including Psilocybe. Through exploring data\, we are able to create a picture of the dynamics within and between Psilocybe species. Well known species in Psilocybe reveal the commonly used barcoding gene ITS is more problematic than expected. New species of Psilocybe being found in Australia contribute to a dynamic picture of species movement. \nBio: Caine Barlow is a Fungi Educator and Mycologist based in Melbourne\, Australia. He has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Tasmania\, and a Master of Science from the University of Melbourne. Caine also has qualifications in horticulture and permaculture. He works closely with the Australian organisation Entheogenesis Australis\, and is a co-founder of US-based organisation The Entheome Foundation. \nCaine started foraging mushrooms in the early 1990’s\, and has been cultivating gourmet fungi since the mid 2000’s. He has taught mushroom cultivation through private workshops\, through mycological societies\, Entheogenesis Australis events\, Fungi Academy\, and numerous mushroom themed events. He has co-written and delivered workshops with Mycommunity Applied Mycology\, and co-wrote and delivered content for DoubleBlind’s 102 Mushroom cultivation course. Caine is a mentor for Milkwood for their online Mushroom Cultivation course. \nHe has written for Entheogenesis Australis\, DoubleBlind\, ThirdWave\, MicroDose\, and Healing Maps. Caine is the author of the Wakeful Mushroom Cultivation Journal\, published in 2024 by Wakeful Travel. He is an admin and moderator on many Facebook groups. SUMMARY:Was NSW intended as a hemp colony?
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Dr John Jiggens\, Cannabis Historian\nAbout: In 1995 John Jiggens helped organise an Australian tour for Jack Herer\, the author of a book called The Emperor Wears No Clothes\, on the history of cannabis hemp. Herer was an amateur historian and a crusader against marijuana prohibition who had discovered that marijuana was also this plant called hemp\, which had once been an extremely important plant\, but was now banned because it was said to be an evil drug plant. During his research Herer discovered the founding fathers of the US\, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson\, had grown hemp\, while the sixth president\, John Quincy Adams had even written an essay on the growing of hemp in Russia when he was Consul there. Hemp\, Herer concluded had been the most important plant on the planet. \nDr. Jiggens says: “As a historian I found Herer’s history of cannabis remarkable. I set to work researching the history of hemp in Australia and discovered that Herer’s claims about hemp’s historical importance were justified. As the basis for rope\, cordage and sail\, hemp’s strategic importance in the Age of Sail was as important as oil is in our era. From reading the documents about the founding of Australia and from reading books like Blainey’s The Tyranny of Distance I came to see how central concerns about hemp supply were in Britain in 1786 when the decision for New South Wales was made. The convicts were the cover story. The real aim was to build a hemp colony.” \n“Just as the founding fathers of the USA grew hemp\, the founding father of Australia\, Sir Joseph Banks\, called himself a hemp zealot\, and was charged with securing hemp supplies during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars\, growing large quantities of hemp in both India and New South Wales. \nBio: Dr John Jiggens is a cannabis historian and citizen journalist who has published several books on the history of cannabis in Australia\, including Marijuana Australiana\, Sir Joseph Banks and the Question of Hemp\, and The Joke: a history of cannabis prohibition in Australia. His Ph.D was ‘Marijuana Australiana: Cannabis Use\, Popular Culture and the Americanisation of Drugs Policy in Australia 1938 – 1988‘.
