SUMMARY:Dave Barbara
DESCRIPTION:Dave Barbara \nI have been singing & writing songs on my Acoustic guitar since I started learning guitar at 15. Mostly because I couldn’t yet figure out other peoples songs. There was no internet.\nI have written songs in various styles through the years. Rock\, Folk\, Pop\, Swing and the occasional country song. Those songs are about me and they’re essentially my diary\, about love\, loss (Heartbreak is always a great muse) but there is also hope and the strange things I see in the world around me.\nI eventually learnt other peoples songs and my gigs are a mix of my songs and covers. \nI hope you will come and see me.

SUMMARY:The MardiGrass Medicinal Comedy Show
DESCRIPTION:The world is changing quickly. Hold on. Nothing is certain. Nothing can be relied upon. Except the annual MardiGrass Comedy Show\, which always has\, and always will\, dish up dollops of laughter (the best medicine) on the MardiGrass Saturday night.\nThis year that night is May 3\, at Nimbin Town Hall\, at 8pm. (Everybody welcome. It’s cheap as.) \nAnother reassuring unchanging thing? The hosts\, Alan Glover and S Sorrensen\, well know for being well known\, older but bolder\, greyer but greener\, angrier but funnier. This year\, the dopey duo presents comedians Ting Lim and Greg Sullivan. \nTing Lim’s dry sarcastic observations have endeared her to audiences since she represented Queensland in the Melbourne International RAW comedy competition. Since then\, she has toured sold-out comedy shows across Australia. And she’s a hard-working funnyist: In 2024\, she performed at the Perth Fringe World\, Adelaide Fringe\, Melbourne International Comedy Festival\, Sydney Comedy Festival\, culminating in a sold-out Brisbane Comedy Festival show. Ting has just filmed her debut stand-up special with director Jim Hare. And now\, her comedy climax – the MardiGrass Medicinal Comedy Show! As Kitty Flannagan described her: “Funny and just a little bit scary … in a good way.” \nAnd then there’s Greg. Greg Sullivan\, dear mate to Alan and S\, is one of their favourite comedians. They’re very excited that he’s returning to the MardiGrass Medicinal Comedy Show. Since first performing in Nimbin in the 90s as a teenager\, Greg has performed in China\, Los Angeles and Casino. He lived with his children in the Northern Rivers for 10 years before going back on the road full-time in 2023. He has written and performed for TV\, film and radio\, but he has a special fondness for the Nimbin School of the Arts (Town Hall) – and MardiGrass in particular. Some of his fondest memories are in that building and that festival. He hopes one day they’ll return to him. \nSo\, there ya go\, folks. An invigorating one and a half hours of funny stuff on Saturday\, May 3\, at 8pm\, in the Nimbin School of Arts\, to help you make sense of a senseless world.\nSee ya there!\n \nPutin and Trump \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nTing Lim: “Ting as a stand-up is the best Ting ever.” – Jimeoin \n \nGreg Sullivan: “Yeah\, no\, good.” – Greg Sullivan \n

SUMMARY:Cannabis as a Psychedelic - the respectful use of this plant medicine for deep therapeutic enquiry
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Paul Benhaim\, Chief Cannabis Officer of Cannabis Psychedelics\nAbout: Cannabis is a true psychedelic. Despite consuming cannabis for 3 decades\, and working with this plant professionally for much of this time – it was only in the last few years that I realised how powerful cannabis can be when used intentionally for wellness\, healing and trauma resolution. This ‘technology’ can be blended with other technologies such as the use of frequency\, terpenes and psychology to provide a profound experience which some say is as powerful as DMT or Ayahuasca. Cannabis is safe and far more cost effective than MDMA or Psilocybin treatment in Australia and is available legally today in the Northern Rivers and throughout Australia. Learn more about what this therapy is and how it can help support your life and those of your loved ones. \nBio: Paul Benhaim has been working in the cannabis and hemp space for more than 2 decades. Founder of Hemp Foods Australia\, Elixinol and currently Chairman of The Hemp Plastic Company – Paul founded the modality of Cannabis Psychedelics in Australia. He has successfully trained up facilitators nationally with his friends -Doctors\, Psychologists\, Psychiatrists\, Historians and Cannabis experts globally. Based in the Northern Rivers\, Paul travels the world constantly and now works for the US Government to help support the growth of hemp globally.

Having grown- up in a country town near Newcastle\, he makes full use of his upbringing and experiences from stories about growing up with a father who was a Doctor in Psychology\, to delivering pizzas while stoned as a seventeen year old boy. Despite his self-proclaimed ‘bogan’ tag\, Matty makes use of the token Aussie Racist and dumb Queenslander labels\, commenting on everyday trends such as Aldi’s ‘specials’ and school playground speed limits. Matty B’s style can only be described as casual and unashamed. His humour is dark\, twisted\, vulgar (in the best kind of way)\, surreal and very abstract.Marty BrightMarty Bright is a hippy who has taken his comedic exports far and wide\, having performed around USA\, Canada and New Zealand at the top clubs including the Comedy Store in LA\, Caroline’s and Broadway Comedy Club in NYC and The Comedy Nest in Montreal.Vanessa Larry MitchellVanessa Larry Mitchell is a successful comic\, emcee and event coordinator\, running five of her own successful rooms in the Northern Rivers\, NSW region. Vanesa enjoys pushing the boundaries and breaking down social norms\, by saying those things women shouldn’t say in public\, but we all think! Her show\, Teardrops on My Dildo\, was the Winner Best Comedy 2022 Newcastle Fringe. Fabulous\, filthy and downright hilarious! Brace yourselves for a wild ride of side-splitting hilarity with the modern-day Queen of Sass\, as she takes you on a laugh-out-loud adventure of her trials and tribulations of parenting\, dating and all things female.Gavin ScottGavin Scott is a Comedian. Gavin is from Sydney. Gavin likes to drink. Gavin knows a little too much about UFOs & Conspiracies and other weird stuff in general. Gavin will now combine comedy and his knowledge by channelling that energy creatively instead of spending many nights in online forums and hiding from you know who… you know. This is a comedian for the curious as Gavin explores paranormal topics as well as belief structures and even himself. Gavin wants to believe… and so should you.

SUMMARY:The Alchemy of Fungi: Bridging Ancient Wisdom and Modern Science
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Liam James\nAbout: In this presentation\, Liam expands on his previous discussion on fungi\, delving deeper into their medicinal properties\, bioremediation potential\, and their role in cellular biology. He explores how ancient medical traditions such as Ayurveda and Spagyrics align with modern scientific principles\, particularly in the study of genetics\, cellular function\, and biochemical pathways. \nFungi are more than decomposers; they are architects of life\, shaping ecosystems and human health in ways both seen and unseen. This talk will introduce the audience to key biological concepts\, from the role of organelles in human cells to the striking parallels found in fungal cellular structures and metabolic processes. By examining natural antibiotics produced by fungi\, Liam will highlight how these organisms disrupt bacterial biofilms\, a concept now critical in the fight against antibiotic-resistant bacteria. \nAdditionally\, the talk will explore regulatory bodies such as AHPRA\, and also how TGA influences access to medicinal fungi and plant-based therapies. With increasing global interest in natural medicine\, understanding the legal and scientific landscape is essential for those working with medicinal plants and fungi. \nBuilding on his years of experience in ethnobotany and mycology\, Liam will also touch on cultivation techniques\, bioremediation strategies\, and the importance of securing native fungal species for future generations. His insights bridge the past and the future\, merging ancient knowledge with cutting-edge scientific advancements to reveal the profound impact of fungi on both personal and planetary health. \nWhether you are a scientist\, herbalist\, or someone fascinated by the hidden world of fungi\, this presentation will leave you with a new perspective on the interconnectedness of life\, medicine\, and the alchemical potential of nature. \nBio: Liam is a multidisciplinary researcher\, mycologist\, and student at Queensland University of Technology (QUT)\, majoring in biology with a minor in human health and disease. His journey into ethnobotany and medicinal fungi began in 2012\, with a passion for collecting and studying plants from around the world. Over the past decade\, he has explored the medicinal\, recreational\, and spiritual properties of various species\, focusing on their biochemical interactions and traditional uses. \nHis curiosity led him to fungi in 2020\, when he realized a gap in the availability of native Australian mushrooms for cultivation and research. Determined to bridge this gap\, he began foraging and documenting native species\, engaging with scientists and researchers to deepen his understanding. His work intersects fields such as biochemistry\, genetics\, permaculture\, and mycoremediation\, exploring how fungi can be harnessed for both human and environmental health. \nLiam’s research extends beyond scientific inquiry\, integrating ancient and modern frameworks of medicine and philosophy. He explores the parallels between Ayurveda\, Spagyrics\, and modern biochemistry\, drawing connections between ancient cellular understandings and contemporary genetics.\nWith a strong foundation in permaculture\, syntropic farming\, Liam has cultivated practical experience in growing medicinal plants and mushrooms. His presentations aim to educate and inspire\, bridging the gap between traditional wisdom and modern science to uncover the vast potential of fungi in medicine\, sustainability\, and the preseveration of native species.

MentalAz reps Melbourne with raw\, no-nonsense lyricism and serious cred; his latest project features Aussie hip-hop icons like Brad Strut and Ciecmate\, so you know he’s coming correct. NNSW talent Organic Distortion has released on Iboga\, Alien & Airglow Records. Performing around AUS & NZ.Mediumm7 pm PsytranceMediumm is known for delivering an ear full of sounds that bound to get you stomping in your tracks\, huge bass lines is pretty much what this kid settles for along with unquestionable tracks\, melodies with his unique taste and passion for music his sets are filled with excellent quality and perfect balance of energy! Creten8 pm PsytranceSome might think that a big city is the only source of cultural trends. But listening to the sound of a metropolis\, it sometimes seems to be kind of incestuous in terms of innovation and independency. In contrast\, truly groundbreaking ideas often come from remote places. Meet Mitchell Storey: Based in the picturesque hinterland of New South Wales he develops his very own approach towards modern Psytrance\, an approach that literally makes him the voice of a new generation of producers.\nIt is 2007 when the young Australian starts up the project Creten. First productions spontaneously draw attention because of their unusual usage of vocals: By rhythmically merging human voices into strong\, rolling Psytrance grooves like instruments rather than classical singing\, he creates an irresistible catchiness. Always quirky\, kind of cartoon-like synth leads are another important trademark of him\, clearly showing a healthy sense of humour. Within no time his talent is discovered by the local scene\, resulting in invitations to Exodus Festival\, the Nimbin MardiGrass\, Collaborations Festival or Lost the Plot Festival. His music is signed on labels such as Airglow Records & Twisted Lotus Records.  When Creten presents his debut album “Dynomanic” in 2011\, his career brakes through to the international scene\, gigs in Switzerland mark the beginning of overseas bookings. And then playing at Earth Dance New Caledonia. Being asked to play at the international Eclipse Festival 2012 in Cairns represents another important milestone. Whenever the quirky\, vocal-infused grooves of Creten boost from a sound system\, his fun-loving attitude rubs off on the audience – a feature that clearly makes him one of the most up-and-coming talents of the international Psytrance scene!Kulture Shock9 pm Psy Trance with live didgeKulture Shock is a dynamic live DJ act that fuses the deep\, primal resonance of the didgeridoo with the hypnotic energy of psytrance. Blending ancient tribal vibrations with pulsing basslines\, intricate synth work\, and live looping\, they create an immersive sonic journey. With driving rhythms\, ethereal soundscapes\, and high-energy performances\, Kulture Shock bridges the gap between traditional roots and futuristic trance\, delivering an electrifying experience on the dance floor. Whether at festivals or underground gatherings\, their sound is a powerful fusion of organic and electronic energy\, designed to elevate consciousness and movement.AudioTronix B2B Bobby K10 pm Chunky BassTwo local brothers from Nimbin grooving up the chunky bass.

SUMMARY:Hemp Olympix Joint Rolling
DESCRIPTION:Sometime in the mid 90s\, Chibo\, Bob and Michael walked into the Hemp Bar and decided that Mardigrass needed events which would entertain as well as educate\, and the Hemp Olympix were born!! \n5 pm : HEMP Olympix Joint Rolling\nHosted by S.Sorensen and Alan Glover \nMust burn from one end to another! The 4 Categories: \nSpeed Roll – Roll a standard 3-paper joint as fast as you can. Joints must include a cardboard filter or will be judged incomplete. \nArtistic Roll – Roll the most beautiful joint within 10 minutes with as many papers as you like. \nRoll in the Dark – Athletes are blindfolded. \nAdverse Conditions Roll – Dependent on weather conditions on the day and the judges’ creativity. \n\nHEMP OLYMPIX – Sport with meaning                                      \nS Sorrensen \nIt’s difficult to determine exactly when the Hemp Olympix began. We know\, of course\, the modern Hemp Olympix began in 1896 in Athens\, attended by 84 athletes\, 600 spectators and 2115 police. \nWe also know that the modern Hemp Olympix was the relighting of the original classical Hemp Olympix played at the base of Mount Olympus more than 2500 years ago\, when the Greeks chucked bongs in the nude\, joints were rolled with papyrus and the results recorded on vellum. \nCannabis has always been a key element in the evolution of humanity from tree-dwelling primate to upstanding human. \nSome evolutionary biologists speculate that the development of an opposable thumb in Homo habilis 2.3 million years ago was due to joint rolling. \nEvolutionary theorist Professor Niger Umber theorises that it was in order to harvest the top heads of Cannabis sativa that caused the early human to stand upright. \nCannabis has been essential part of the human story. And so too has sport. Hence the Hemp Olympix. \nIn 776 BC\, the first official Hemp Olympix was held at Olympia\, in Greece. Featuring the three traditional sporting disciplines – Bong Throw & Yell\, Iron Growerperson Event and Joint Roll – these games were held every four years in honour of Zeus\, the God of Competition\, and Cannabi\, the Goddess of Pot. The athletes\, from all over the known world\, performed naked\, and the winners were given a wreath of Cannabis leaves as a prize to be enjoyed later. \nThe first modern Hemp Olympix was held in Athens\, Greece\, in 1896. \nThe International Hemp Olympix Committee (IHOC)\, formed in 1894\, determined that the modern Hemp Olympix would be an event open to all nationalities and genders to celebrate sport\, Cannabis and the human body. \nThe 1896 Athens Hemp Olympix was a huge success. \nAfter that first Hemp Olympix\, the Games flourished\, being held every four years\, as was the ancient custom. But the IHOC decided in 1904 that the Hemp Olympix would be held in different towns and cities around the world. \nThe Hemp Olympix now attracts teams from around the world\, from Portugal (where Cannabis is legal and the Portugese Hemp Olympix team is funded with money saved from dropping the War on Drugs) to Russia (where war and government are funded by the War on Drugs). \nIn May\, 1993\, the Hemp Olympix was held for the first time in Australia\, in a village called Nimbin\, as a sporting resistance to a tyrannical suppression of the burning bush funded by climate change denial and alcoholic dementia. \nSince then\, 135 countries have hosted the Hemp Olympix. \nNimbin has vowed to host a MardiGrass Hemp Olympix every year until the ridiculous laws of Cannabis prohibition are repealed. \nIn 2003\, two Australian blokes became international Hemp Olympix Officials\, having undergone their Integrity Assessment\, having passed their Knowledge of the Rules and Etiquette for the Games of the Hemp Olympix Examination\, and having received a very positive result in their Drug Test. \nAlan Glover and S Sorrensen now spend their time travelling to Hemp Olympix around the world\, making sure the rules and ethics of the games are adhered to. \nThey officiate at the annual Hemp Olympix at the Nimbin MardiGrass where athletes from around the globe compete for prizes\, glory and the sheer fun of it. \nYou too can celebrate all that is good in humanity\, make fun of all that is ridiculous (like the marijuana laws)\, and have stories to tell the kids\, by being a athlete in the Hemp Olympix. (Just sign up on the day at the Hemp Olympix Sign Up Table.) \nOr you can be a spectator and thrill to a 40-metre Bong Throw & Yell\, have your breath taken away at the speed and grace of a sub-20-second Joint Roll or shake your head at the strength and determination of an Irongrower Person. \nYou can also delve more deeply into the history\, the characters\, and the rules of the Hemp Olympix by purchasing ‘A Spectator’s Guide to the Hemp Olympix’ from the Nimbin Hemp Embassy. \nThrow bong\, live long.

SUMMARY:4:20 Stoner Blaze
DESCRIPTION:4:20 in 2025….. the Stoner SuperB owl . . . .  wOOt\n\nWelcome to the Earth’s longest running “Four Twenty” Demonstration. Every year since 1999 this event has reverberated around the web (and the world) in such a way that it has become one of the\, if not the\, coolest political demonstration that one can participate in on the planet\, anywhere\, any time\, all time\, ever.\nBig words? Perhaps\, but until you see\, hear and smell the fun as the Big Joint bounces up and down and up up up through a fog of smoke\, nothing I can write here in the program\, would convince you that I am\, if anything\, understating the coolness of the experience. \nTraditionally\, Four Twenty is the time we take control of the street! aka OCCUPY. \nStand shoulder-to-shoulder with fellow cannabis lovers and light whatever you have in your hand\, and let’s appreciate that all around the world millions upon millions of people are now smoking Cannabis “out loud and proud” at Four Twenty every day of the week\, month and year in every social setting. \nAt Four Twenty everyone ought to be thinking Pot for Peace and Peace for Pot and ways to achieve it. Thank each other for bravery in the face of what can seem at times to be overwhelming opposition\, and for standing strong against those who think cannabis is a problem. Thank each other for spreading the word that cannabis is part of the solution. Now take this vibe out into the world and tell everyone you meet that there is a tribal wave of change coming. And most important of all\, tell everyone you meet for the next 364 days everything you learned at the Nimbin MardiGrass!! [More at bigjoint.org] \n“I dream that one day in the not too distant future\, everyone will be outside in the streets\, in every work place and outside every house at 4:20 smoking pot. If not smoking it\, then perhaps just THINKING Pot for Peace & Peace for Pot. On that day\, at that time and from then on\, our world will be at Peace.” Max Stone

SUMMARY:Kombi Konvoy
DESCRIPTION:…rolls up in Nimbin around 4.20 pm Saturday 3 May\nHaving wended its way from Byron Bay. \nLine the street to welcome up to 100 kombis!\n \nAbout the MardiGrass Kombi Konvoy\nMardiGrass 1996 was very important in a number of ways. It was a five day event to include Wednesday the 1st of May\, and it included the first Kombi Konvoy which opened the protest. Over the past three decades the amazing Kombi Konvoy has continued as a proud MardiGrass tradition. A procession of variously decorated Kombi vans winds its way from the coast at Byron Bay to nearby Lismore and arrives at 4.20pm in Nimbin led by Chibo\, the Hemp Olympix torchbearer. In the 1990s the Kombis would park in a circle for the opening ceremony while in recent years their arrival heralds the start of the 420 Stoner Blaze.

SUMMARY:The future of drug driving laws & home-grown Cannabis
DESCRIPTION:About: This panel will examine two hot Cannabis topics. \nGood old Australia. Always punching above its weight. Australia was the first country to introduce Roadside Drug Testing laws. Is improving safety really the goal of Australian drug driving laws? If yes\, is that working out? What are the implications of sanctioning drivers based on the detection of a drug rather than impairment? Speakers will discuss the current problems and their predictions about the future of drug driving laws in Australia. \nNon-profit supply models offer an alternative\, including allowing people to grow cannabis for their own personal consumption. But what could be the future home-growing cannabis in Australia? What can we learn from growers in Canberra? What are the obstacles and challenges? Will future regulations include ways to support home cannabis gardeners? \nFacilitator: Steve Bolt \nPanelists: \nJeremy Buckingham is a Legalise Cannabis MP in NSW who is committed to bringing about progressive drug law reform\, legalising cannabis\, fixing the broken RDT system and growing the hemp industry. \nDr Pat Keyzer is a lawyer and academic specialising in access to justice\, constitutional law and human rights. \nDr Lee Miles is a biologist and geneticist with over 15 years of active research experience. \nSimon Pettinger is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and co-founder of Cymra Life Sciences\, an Australian company specializing in organic medical cannabis\, based in the Northern Rivers. \nEmily Rigby is a research scientist and passionate cannabis advocate who established one of Australia’s first licensed medical cannabis cultivation and research facilities. Emily is Chair and Founder of Australian Cannabis Cultivators (ACC). \nDr Michael White is a behavioural scientist and acknowledged as a “world expert on the effects of cannabis on driving”. He has spent over three decades focusing on drug-driving research and policymaking\, and is currently interested in the role of cannabis in road crashes.

DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Jasen Chamoun\nAbout: I will be talking about my experiences over the last 20 years being directly involved with hundreds of treatments for all sorts of conditions from heavy opiate addiction\, meth use\, alcohol\, OCD\, depression and other disorders. \nIboga physiologically resets opiate receptors to an almost pre-addictive state. \nI also believe because of its anti-parasitic and anti-bacterial properties\, it helps to kill parasites that excrete the toxins that make us crave whatever it is they want to eat\, be it heroin\, sugar\, alcohol etc\, helping with having little to no cravings post Iboga. \nIboga/Ibogaine heals on different levels in different ways. It has many mechanisms of action\, physically and psychologically. From killing off bacteria\, parasites and the like to firing new neural pathways in your brain\, resetting opiate receptors\, helping psychologically\, emotionally and other healing we would not even be aware of as yet. There are also ways this medicine heals\, on other levels\, that can’t yet be fully described by science. It truly is a remarkable medicine. \nAfter firsthand experiencing the marvellous benefits of this beautiful medicine I deeply felt the desire to help others receive the gifts Iboga/Ibogaine has to offer. I felt compelled to help others as this medicine had helped me. Hence the last 20 years being involved with Iboga/Ibogaine. \nBio:  At age 38 I was guided to this beautiful plant medicine called Tabernanthe Iboga. This beautiful plant not only helps with physical withdrawal\, but it also helps on other levels such as emotionally and mentally\, basically rewiring the brain with Ibogaine/Iboga. I felt healing on different levels\, a sense of fullness that took away the thought of using opiates. The last 20 years I have been working with this beautiful and powerful medicine. I am a happy man\, though of course have still life’s ups and downs\, I have 2 young children\, a wife and home\, something I wouldn’t have thought possible in the throes of my addiction. Thank you Iboga/Ibogaine.

SUMMARY:Exploring the Benefits and Challenges of Organically Produced Medical Cannabis
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Simon Pettinger\, Superbly Green\nAbout: Organic medical cannabis production offers numerous benefits compared to other production methods. One of the key advantages is purity—organic grown cannabis is free from synthetic pesticides\, herbicides\, and chemical fertilizers\, ensuring a cleaner\, safer product with no harmful residues. \nAdditionally\, organic cultivation enhances the potency and efficacy. Plants grown organically often contain a richer cannabinoid and terpenoid profile. Terpenes\, which contribute to flavor\, aroma\, and therapeutic effects\, are often more pronounced in organic cannabis\, enhancing the entourage effect where cannabinoids and terpenes work together. \nSustainability is another significant factor—organic farming prioritizes soil health and minimizes environmental harm. This results in an eco-friendly production process with a lower environmental footprint. \nWhile organic cannabis production comes with challenges—such as higher costs\, increased labor\, and smaller yields due to the reliance on natural pest control and soil management—the benefits far outweigh these hurdles. Despite the added effort\, the rewards of purity\, richness\, and sustainability make the investment worthwhile. \nThis talk will explore the benefits and challenges of organically producing medical cannabis\, with a special focus on the living soil production system at Cymra Life Sciences. \nBio: Simon Pettinger is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and co-founder of Cymra Life Sciences\, an Australian company specializing in organic pharmaceutical products derived from medical cannabis\, based in the Northern Rivers. Simon has been instrumental in the company’s growth since its founding in 2017. He oversees operations\, including tissue culture services\, breeding programs\, and horticultural research partnerships with Southern Cross University. \nBefore Cymra\, Simon served as Managing Director of Australia’s largest plant tissue culture facility for over a decade\, gaining extensive experience in indoor plant propagation and commercial development. \nSimon is passionate about producing the highest quality products for patients through an organic\, biologically driven production system. This method enhances cannabis’s medicinal properties while ensuring it is free from harmful chemicals and produced sustainably. His leadership drives Cymra’s mission to improve patient quality of life through organic innovative therapies.

SUMMARY:HempStone hands on workshop
DESCRIPTION:Host: Martin Ernegg\nAbout: An activity for the whole family! Using non-toxic\, environmentally friendly products. Introducing an innovative\, sustainable modelling compound Hempstone made from hemp fibre and water and nothing else! Imagine a world where children can mould\, shape\, and create to their heart’s content\, all while respecting our planet. That’s exactly what our sustainable paper-mache offers. By using hemp fibre\, water and nothing else we’ve created a product that is not only safe but also gentle on the environment. \nBio: Martin began his work as a molecular sculptor in 1986 in Austria. His work included creating building materials from cardboard and paper and cloth. Returning to his home\, Australia\, Martin created Hempstone by grinding hemp mache into its individual molecules and then realigning the molecules so their ‘faces’ are perfectly aligned. Martin has now begun grinding raw hemp bast into Hempstone and molding artifacts of great practical use and beauty. In association with NRHGC Martin is building a workshop to make Hempstone artifacts and share his knowledge with the farmers who will take his work further.

SUMMARY:Cultural Frameworks of Psychedelics
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Sianna-Rose “Pixie” Miller\, Psychedelically Aware (The PATCH)\nAbout: The psychedelic experience is heavily influenced by the cultural frameworks they are used in. As we enter a new era of psychedelics being more broadly used in both clinical settings and by underground facilitators\, there are many social and ethical considerations that must be addressed. Due to the prolonged stigmatisation of using psychedelics in Western societies\, we need to build a new cultural framework. There are many deep-seated issues of colonialism which include intellectual property theft\, environmental impacts\, psychedelic tourism and the use of “cultural wisdom” from Indigenous peoples. This permeates through the history of psychoactive species being patented for commercialisation in the pharmaceutical industry to the new age psychedelic facilitators and now psychedelic assisted therapy. The way in which people historically took psychoactive plants and fungi was rooted within community\, where integration was supported by those who knew us intimately. Capitalism has fuelled a lucrative legal and illegal market for psychedelics to be taken with strangers for the purpose of healing or exploration. The hype surrounding psychedelics can lead to devastating outcomes if we are not careful in how this unfolds. For many the costs of legal psychedelic assisted therapy is currently out of reach\, further driving the underground market. This also raises the important matter of the need for decriminalisation of psychedelics which can aid in creating safer environments for people to take them. As such\, how the emerging frameworks for psychedelic use take shape is a discussion we should all participate in. \nBio: Sianna-Rose “Pixie” Miller is the founder of Psychedelically Aware\, a harm minimisation group and The PATCH – The Psychedelically Aware Talking Circle Hub. Having studied psychology and health science with a focus on neuroscience\, she has a broad understanding of how entheogens affect both the body and mind. Pixie is passionate about research and how entheogens could be used in therapeutic models. Currently\, her pursuit of harm minimisation through Psychedelically Aware and The PATCH has led to ongoing community discussions and education. The PATCH holds regular online talking circles on harm minimisation strategies within the psychedelic community. Psychedelically Aware draws upon interdisciplinary knowledge to collaborate on community-led initiatives and create of educational resources which allows the potential of entheogens to shine in safer ways.

SUMMARY:Why is cannabis legalised in so much of the United States\, but not here?
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Dr Patrick Keyzer\nAbout: Opinion surveys demonstrate there is widespread support for decriminalisation and legalisation of adult\, recreational cannabis use in Australia. Why hasn’t this happened yet\, when most US states have taken steps in this direction? In this lecture\, Dr Keyzer will explain why key features of our constitutional\, legal and political system are really quite different to the U.S.\, and how these differences impede reform here. \nBio: Dr Pat is a lawyer and academic specialising in access to justice\, constitutional law and human rights. He advocates criminal justice reform.
