This year the MardiGrass Comedy Club will be an extra special
event on Saturday night, April 30, from 8-10pm.
For a start the Comedy Club will be held in Nimbin Town Hall.
Pretty fancy. This beautiful and venerable space will be transformed
into the coolest comedy club this side of the Pacific.
But the really exciting news is the line-up.
Headlining the bill is the remarkable Harley Breen from Melbourne
– Australia’s best young comedian. We kid you not.
He absolutely killed at Woodford Folk Festival even making gumboots
split their sides.
The Age described him as “a hilarious break from stereotypes.
Very funny.”
The Herald Sun wrote, “Breen is real talent wno’s
not afraid to speak his mind or yours.”
S Sorrensen said, “I hate this bloke. He gives me stitches
and jaw ache.”
A regular headliner on the Australian scene, Harley is also
familiar to comedy circuits in Edinburgh, London and south-east
Asia, and at festivals such as the Edinburgh, Adelaide and Melbourne
Comedy and Fringe Festivals, where he has worked with major
comic talent like Steven K. Amos, Fiona O’Loughlin, Greg
Fleet and Wil Anderson.
A Melbourne Comedy Festival favourite, Harley has just finished
his fifth full solo show for the festival, I Heart Bunnings.
But wait there’s more!
As well as Harley there’ll be another new face performing
at the MardiGrass Comedy Club – Paul McMahon.
Byron-based Paul is an ex-bank manager who realised he wanted
to do something useful – so he bcame a comedian. Paul
is now in demand on the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Canberra comedy
circuits. He’s the polite, quietly spoken guy next door
with a knack for wry observation and who says what he really
thinks. Oh, and he’s hilarious.
Everyone loves Paul.
Hosting the show will be MardiGrass’s resident comedians
Alan Glover and S Sorrensen.
These two comics (and Hemp Olympix officials) do two-handed
stand-up – and that’s a rare trick. Two blokes bouncing
off each other (verbally mostly but sometimes physically)they’ll
discuss just what is happening at MardiGrass in a serious, dignifed
and refined manner using all their scientific and commercial
expertise. No really.
And just to round out the evening with some feminine ambience,
the MardiGrass Comedy Club is proud to have the wonderful, uplifting
Andrea Soler to perform a few of her songs and to imbibe the
club with MardiGrass bliss.
The MardiGrass Comedy Club, Saturday, April 30, at Nimbin Town
Hall, from 8-10pm, featuring Hraley Breen, Paul McMahon, Alan
Glover, S Sorrensen and Andrea Soler.
There’ll be food and wine, laughs and candle light.
$10 or a MardiGrass armband gets you in. And that’s incredible
value.
