James Moylan

James Moylan is a mature aged student currently undertaking Honours in Law with an ambition to enter the legal profession as a barrister.

In a long and varied working life James has been variously a journalist, a copywriter, a heritage researcher, a law reform activist, a sugar train driver, a painter and paperhanger, a small businessman, a fisherman, a junior executive, a line marker, a marine researcher, a beach bum, a radio producer, an explosives jugger, a general and brickies labourer, a springmaker, a storeman and packer, an executive assistant, a graphic artist... etc.

James was born in Inverell, NSW, grew up in Sydney, returned to the Northern Rivers for a summer (or two) of love, and then set off to visit and live in every mainland state of Australia, before entering into University studies for the first time as a twenty-seven year old.

After studying Anthropology and Communications (Uni of South Australia & Adelaide Uni, 1990-2) James moved to Mackay, North Queensland where, over the next fifteen years, he instigated and led a series of heritage research and documentation projects (including the Crediton State Forest Heritage Research and Hazard Mitigation Project & the Mackay Region Goldfields Survey), married Sharon and was blessed with a daughter, Tayla, and settled down to grow a family.

Three years ago James was presented with an opportunity to enter Law at SCU and so the Moylan family moved to the region to enable James to engage his studies.

James was the founding secretary of the LEXUS Union of Students and was elected President in August of 2010.
