FRINGE OLYMPIX
World Stoned Chess
Championship.
The 2014 MardiGrass World Stoned Chess Championship
was again a wonderful success .this year it started at
1330 and continued well after dark , the final few hours
found the competitors battling it out by candlelight.
The day was blessed by clear skies but was unfortunately
accompanied by a cold breeze that wreaked havoc with the
chess pieces and reduced the numbers of competitors. Gerald
Taylor ,the self proclaimed Goddess of the mardigrass
and DIviner of the weather sorted out the rain but omitted
to control the cold wind, now away in Cambodia needs to
pull up his hemp knitted socks.
This year there were 27 competitors down from 43 last
year and 8 countries including Australia represented.12
of the competitors were French and other countries represented
were Algeria,Scotland,Germany,Israel,Poland and Cuba .
Due to some unforeseen divine intervention some Thc vegetable
matter descended like manna from heaven onto the tables
in the alley outside the Nimbin museum and play was officially
underway. This year the competition was of a very high
standard and losers such as Farouk from Israel,Alejandro
from Cuba and Carl from Estonia were all of an excellent
standard.
After 4 hours of heavy continuous smoking the royal herb
there were 3 undefeated players.Pierre and Marius both
French and undefeated on 5 wins and myself simon and current
world stoned chess champion also undefeated on 5 wins.i
decided to play Marius and the winner to play Pierre for
the title.Whilst this game was underway at late dusk a
newcomer presented himself and duly started to play against
Pierre.of course we had to make sure he was suitably qualified
and in this endeavour he was most enthusiastic .I had
a tough match against Marius but I won and was preparing
myself, by rolling a few more, for the final.creating
great controversy and surprisingly Max defeated Pierre
in a long hard fought game and so now came the decision
as to whether a newcomer having played only 1 game and
surely having a pathetically low Thc level and not having
had to concentrate for 5 hours bent be allowed to compete
to win the championship.
Pierre had left but I fortunately I had the guru jahlove
to guide me and generosity won over sense and Max was
allowed to play for the title.H e won the first game in
a long hard fought game playing white.Colours were changed
and the game see sawed for over an hour then by stealth
of a silly tired move I made a mistake ax won and was
awarded the title.
Max Dargin who now hails from the Gold Coast but is a
Nimbin local as his parents ran the Rainbow Cafe in the
roaring 70's where he grew up and went to school and his
mother was one of the first shareholders in the tuntable
falls community.
Controversy aside Max was definitely the better player
on the day and a much deserved winner.
