The Big Joint is unique among Australia’s Big
Things. It’s the only Big Thing that represents an illegal
substance. It’s the only genuinely portable Big Thing.
And finally, adorned with the slogans “Let It Grow”
and “Good Medicine ” on either side, it’s
the only Big Thing that delivers a political message.
The Big Joint is now a well established MardiGrass
tradition. They have always been made with a canvas covering,
and the internal structure has usually been bamboo, but poly
pipe frames have been made. The main drawback to this has been
the sheer weight and size of them. This makes joint-bearing
a tiring exercise just when we want to have fun! It also makes
transporting them a big operation.
We know some will object to the idea of a plastic joint,
but hope you can find it in your hearts to welcome it as a new
piece of equipment to help end Prohibition!
