FRIDAY 31 APRIL

9 am  The inaugural annual NIMBIN MEDICINAL CANNABIS SEMINAR: BENEFITS, VIRTUES AND HAZARDS, speakers include Dennis Peron, director of Californians for Compassionate Use, Dr David Helliwell, GP in Nimbin for 15 years, and Dr Harry Freeman, Nimbin elder and Lismore psychiatrist. Plus song, dance and poetry. Registration: $5

6 pm  ARRIVAL OF KOMBI KONVOY — a convoy of 50 VW vans is Nimbin’s annual salute to its hippie pioneers. Assembles 4.30 pm at the Conservatorium, Lismore, (inquiries 6664 1313) and led into Nimbin by the HEMP Olympix torch.
7 pm  MARDI GRASS OPENING CEREMONY — a tribal ceremony which begins the hemp harvest celebrations. Guest of honour Dennis Peron, will light the Flame of Remembrance for victims, prisoners and casualties of the War on Drugs. An effigy of the demon of Zero Tolerance will be burned. The ceremony will conclude with an exultant limbo under the hemp stalk led by dance group, Ganga Fairies.

8 pm  PSYCHEDELIC CIRCUS — Fluoro music and dance by Choral Spawn, Scary Fairies, Pete Pix and Pagan Love Cult, then live techno with DJs Tony, Steve, Pete & Gab. Admission $8.

Saturday 1 May

10 am  HEMP OLYMPIX — Heats begin for contests which include Joint Rolling, Bong Throwing and the Growers Ironperson event. Positive drug testing mandatory!

HEMP TALK — Lectures & Discussions in Nimbin Hall

11 am  INDUSTRIAL HEMP IN AUSTRALIA — a discussion led by Andrew Katelaris, presenting a film and report on his recent bumper crop of legal low-THC hemp.
noon MEDICINAL CANNABIS & DRUG LAW REFORM — presentation and discussion led by Dennis Peron
1 pm  GLOBAL ACTION TO END THE WAR ON DRUGS — presentation and discussion led by Dana Larsen, editor, Cannabis Culture Magazine, Vancouver
2 pm  SMOKING POT, MAKING ART AND CHANGING THE WORLD — story telling by Graeme Dunstan, Commander of the Mardi Grass Jungle Patrol, and Dennis Peron.
3 pm  SENDING A MESSAGE TO THE NSW DRUG SUMMIT — a discussion led by Michael Balderstone of Nimbin HEMP
4 pm  LESS IS MORE: HARM MINIMISATION FOR CANNABIS USERS — a panel discussion about safe and sensible use led by Steve Bolt of the Northern Rivers Legal Service
5 pm  SRILA GOVINDA MAHARAJA: “VOICES OF THE ANCESTORS, VOICES OF THE GODS” — His Divine Grace will lead group chanting and present a discourse on the ancient spiritual literature of India.

8 pm HARVEST BALL — Music, dance and performance by Gunja Fairies, Slippery, Peppa Rose and the Transit Band, Tweek, Red Eyed Frogs and DJs till late Pete, Bab & Jez. Admission $8

10 am  HEMP OLYMPIX — heats resume.

11 am HEMP LEGAL SESSION — Free legal advice & discussion on cannabis law reform led by Steve Bolt and Dennis Peron

11 am SEED AUCTION & SEED SWAP — discussion and exchange of seeds, strains and good breeding practices.

12.30 pm MARDI GRASS PARADE — assembles in Cecil Street near the Nimbin Showgrounds. Be in it! Wear a costume or a mask. Carry the Big Joint. Bear a banner! Wave a flag! 
1 pm  MARDI GRASS PARADE — departs and proceeds along Cullen Street to Peace Park.

2 pm  CANNABIS LAW REFORM RALLY — follow the Parade to Peace Park. Speakers will include Michael Balderstone, Dennis Peron, Dana Larsen and others.

3 pm  FINALS OF HEMP OLYMPIX

4 pm  CANNABIS GROWERS CUP — judging of the best heads of the season.

8 pm  PICKERS BALL UNPLUGGED – George Scott hosting a night of Nimbin favourites, Mook & Shanto, Paul Brosgarth, Ewan James, Phil Levy & Leo, Sandra Lansdowne, Sarah Mitchell and Gabbie plus jams (Admission $5.00)
