lie.
The prohibition
of cannabis is a culture war. It is the marginalisation of an
entire social grouping. It has little to do with medical facts,
and a lot to do with a political mindset.
This mindset is one that says,
“Society would be OK if only there weren’t any X
type of people, and we were all the right kind of folk.”
Hitler took this concept to new heights, but history is riddled
with other exterminations carried out by people with the “best
of intentions”.
Today, anyone who advocates peace,
compassion and tolerance is somehow suspect. Human rights have
no political priority. The economics of profit rule supreme.
Packaged news promotes neo-con views. The media is subservient
to business interests. America is investing unwisely in paranoias,
and exporting them as well. This is the brave new western world,
twisted by cynical and opportunistic forces within.
In these circumstances it is
a brave person who stands openly against such forces, but this
is when those prepared to stand up and be counted are most sorely
needed. If fear keeps us from doing the right thing, terrible
things just keep on happening. Lies paper over lies until the
fabric tears.
Cannabis Law Reform can look
insignificant in the greater picture, but cannabis laws are
a tool of politicians and police to marginalise people. Lives
may be destroyed over a longer period of time, but they are
still destroyed, and not by any physical effect of cannabis,
but through criminalisation, marginalisation and a consequent
loss of opportunities.
Is this what you want for our
children, or their children, or theirs?
Adult human beings should have
the right to use or not use cannabis. Humanity has been using
it for over ten thousand years without any effect on civilisation’s
progress. Isn’t that a long enough trial?
The cannabis laws are an act
of prejudice. Maintain your spirit, your sense of what is right
and true, and
